Three high-level former employees of ACORN said CNN host and brother of Andrew Cuomo Chris Cuomo tried to take charge of cleaning up his brother’s 2007 scandal involving an ACORN voter fraud scandal in New York. In addition, CNN recently became embroiled in an ongoing controversy with producer Brianna Keilar over the dropping of a story on the Kavanaugh hearings.
They told Ben Smith of Buzzfeed News that Cuomo tried to “reassure” ACORN co-founder Wade Rathke that the national media did not care about the scandal. He was “fooled” by the purported consensus and failed to do his job, said one former employee who said Cuomo himself tried to withhold information.
Another told Buzzfeed News that Andrew used the group to exert political pressure against then-candidate Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Andrew Cuomo responded to Buzzfeed News by saying he was the victim of a “deceitful” smear campaign and added that “the outside source who quoted those allegedly ex-ACORN employees is ignoring my contribution to reducing the government’s role in health care and the creation of education opportunities.” He did not respond to the allegations about Chris Cuomo.
