Ronda Rousey

“To be honest, I was watching a lot of footage from the 2012 Olympics when I woke up. The trials are over and the rest of the stuff won’t be until mid-July, so I watched a lot of the gymnastics and the highlights from the London Olympics. When the Paralympics end in September, I might see the qualifying for the Summer Olympics. I know for a fact that I won’t be competing in either one, because I’ve already been retired, but it’s an Olympic-level sport. I’m not ashamed to say that I admire people like Kayla Harrison who come from brutal backgrounds, suffered abuse, were beaten up, came out the other side and are still standing. When I’m looking at a video of the Paralympics and you see somebody performing ballet, I see someone like myself doing something like that. If they pull your leg or your spine, it’s not just ‘needing to be fixed,’ but it’s psychological injury. Those athletes have so much purpose.”
